Portraits

Portraits is the topic i was working on for these drawings.
Having already worked on portraits before i didn't really feel that enstranged to working on it again. The eyes above and below took me 7 hours to do and the one below took me 5 hours. Each of these portraits were done in a HB pencil.

The Last Supper

The Last Supper was a topic we were set and it could be based on anything to do with the topic, for instance, we could base it on religion, plates or even food itself but i chose to base it on fruit.
This piece is called 'The Strawberry, The Banana and The Grape'.
It is a collage i did based on a photo i took of some fruit i arranged. It is A6 in size and took me 15 hours to complete.

With this project, we had to chose out own topic so i chose graphics as i don't do much of that and i felt like a challenge. For the graphics section we had to create a poster and 2 business cards based on 'The Last Supper'. I created this lollipop as a study and left it as that because i couldn't figure out how to make a business card to match without making it look exactly the same.


Then i came up with the idea of using a dragon fruit because that colour pink is very intriguing!

And i came up with this as my final piece. I was inspired by vector art and the works of Lawrence Zeegen.


Notice how i used the white on black dots for the back of the business card? That's what the inside of a dragon fruit looks like [for those who didn't know] ...i say it looks like frog spawn!

Dreams

Dreams was the title for this project. It didn't have to be a dream that you dreamt, so i just thought up this surreal image... I call it a Plamingo!
I tried to think of 2 animals that are both distinctive in their own way but similar. Well, a flamingo and a peacock are similar because they're both birds and they are both distinctive by ones beak and ones feathers. So by combining it together i would have a very dream like surreal image!

But, being as my imagination isn't very clear i didn't know exactly where i was going with it, it didn't get finished.. i dont think it ever will because i am having fears of ruining it.

Photography

Photography was one of the topics they wanted us to focus on for a holiday sketch book so i went around taking pictures of things... The photo above is called 'Clouds'.

The photo above is called 'Mistake'. I was going to bin it but i saw it on the windowsill and thought it looked interesting! :D

The photo above is called 'Diamond'.

Th photo above is called 'Building'.

The photo above is called 'Somewhat Crumpled'. I saw it in the garden and liked the way its petals looked like screwed up paper.

The photo above is called 'Take Control'. It's a ladybird. :)

The photo above is called 'Love Coco Pops'. I found a heart shaped coco pop in my bowl!

The photo above is called 'Swerve'.

The photo above is called 'Slumber'.

Typography

Typography was also a topic we had to include in out holiday sketchbook. Filling a page full of research as to help me understand what types of typography there are, i managed to create this piece of Lauryn Hill above after 22 hours. It reads 'Lauryn Hill is Classic!'.

I used a different type of typography to create 'Humpty Dumpty' above. He is made up of letters and numbers and took me 5 hours to complete. Both images were done in Photoshop.

Retouching

Retouching was actually quite fun! This is Slimone and she is the result of a retouching topic i once covered in college over the 2008 6 weeks holiday. Retouching Simone took me 13 hours to do! As for the hair.. well she had a weird hair style to start with so excusees for that bit not looking quite right!

Architecture

Architecture was the (obvious!) basis of this topic. It was inspired by the chinese architectural buildings. It's called the 'Wip Ying' and was created in 4 days out of recycled materials. The symbol in the middle is supposed to be my name in chinese!

Even though this tiny piece of architecture measures only approximately 30 cm in height, it has been a pain in the everything from carrying it to and from college and it getting damaged on the way to its natural alluring powers that enabled the head of department to secretly abduct it.

Never again.

Still Life

Still life was in fact a little boring to work on but, however, used it as a way to develop my fine art skills. At the age of 16 in 2007 i painted the piece above from a still life of shells i had set up to work from. It's titled 'The Three Shells', was my first oil painting on canvas and rushing, it only took me 6 hours to complete.

I don't understand how people can work in oils though.. having to dilute the paint with white spirit makes the smell stick in your nose for hours. It's just like having the smell of polish stuck up your nose -NOT GOOD!

Anyway, back to acrylics on paper (as above). The painting above was based on a still life i had set up of a charm bracelet of mine. It took me about 15 hours on and off.. because i got to a point where i didn't want to finish it but i did in the end.

The image above is in fact a drawing of a buckle for the still life topic. It was just sitting there all cute on my bag and i couldn't help myself! Took me 6 hours with a HB pencil.

Graffiti

Graffiti art in the streets of Brighton is very colourful! :) In the 2007 holiday as school ended, we had to fill a sketch book to take to college in september to show. During that time i went to brighton and that's when i saw the graffiti! After 7 hours with oil pastels and pen ink i came up with this. It was the only finished thing in my book i was proud of!

Wings And Feathers

This project was based on wings and feathers. The piece above was a study i did that followed up to the final piece. The peacock feathers took a while longer to do compared to the angel feathers as it is dne in crayon. This study took me about 9 hours to do due to those scheming feathers..!
I used Dali as an artist reference due to the 'Mediterannian rose'!

I liked drawing this wing! :) I was determined to finish it but couldn't as i had a final piece to be working on..!

This wing took me 5 hours to draw.. its done in the usual HB pencil on paper. I like the way it turned out! :D

This peacock feather above took me about... 6 hours i think? It was done in crayon. When i finished it, an arts teacher kept touching it, she thought i'd stuck an actual feather on the page! o.O

Portraits

Hehee! I drew 2pac! :D
100% HB pencil on paper, 16 hours. And you want to know the size of it, eh? It's A6!!! yes, half of A5 and it took me SIXTEEN HOURS! You would probably think im mad. There is one thing that went wrong with it though.. if you notice then ah! Let's just say he was born like that!! aheh..

And excusees for the blatant watermark on the Lloyd Banks portrait below, some sad loser whom of which i happened to call a FRIEND at the time decided to claim it and say he drew it :|
how sad. :|

Never again.

It's so sad, even the portrait of Lloyd banks has to cut his eyes about it!!
This drawing, however, took ME 5 hours.

Interlocking Forms

This piece is titled 'The Beauty Of Colour' and it was based on interlocking forms. A woman once asked for the price of this at school open day! ^_^; she wanted to buy it! ahehh..
Also, when it came to me getting this piece back from school, they didn't want to give it back! They wanted to buy it from me but i didnt think it was worth it for the price they were offering.. so i let them them use the money they were offering to get a print from it and THEN they gave it back [after a few MORE]!

So many people like this piece apart from me! i don't like the way i painted it, i always look at it and think that i could have painted it better! I would have brought the fade to the bottom of the flowers at the top and i would have put more deatil into the hands but i was rushed, so i didnt have time. I couldn't go over it because it was in watercolour and it would have left chalky white marks and it wasnt worth it..
I completed this in year 9 so i was about 14/15, it's on A2 paper in watercolours and took me about 1 week.

Below is just a study i did on hands, it was also the first time i ever used acrylics! i didnt use any water with it so it was very sticky.. bleugh..

Surrealism

This piece is named 'The Curse of The Butterfly' because my little butterfly is always forgotten :(
The Butter-fly was the first surreal idea i thought of but nobody really notices the poor little yellow fella hovering beneath the tap.. So instead, i put him in the title! :D

This took me about 2 weeks (on and off) to do as i had to think up and focus on every little thing in the picture and was done in watercolours, oil pastel, crayon, and byro. I did this [with only one paint brush!] in year 8 in school, so i was about 13/14.

Many people who have seen this piece just keep looking at it like a TV, they say there's always something new you spot! Well there are loads to spot actually hehe.. Have you noticed Henry the bee fishing in a puddle? no? How about my killer bee! The MAN's head on the bottom of the umberella? Well of course you noticed that Jerry the giraffe has JAGUAR spots!
heheee!!!

I also completed studies of Fish-Fingers based on Finding Nemo!!

This one above was based on Nemo, a clownfish.


This one above was based on Gargle, a Royal Basslet.

And this final one was based on Dory, a Blue tang.

Abstract

Well!
I'm uploading this first as it was one of the first final pieces i had ever done at school. It was done when i was in year 7, i was about 13... Its called 'Camdinski'.

Took me about 11 hours to complete and was done in watercolours on paper.
It was based on shoes and as you would have guessed, my artist reference was Kandinski!

Hmmm...

Hmm.. how does one start off a blog?

Let me see....

.. well first of all im happy because even though im not really a HTML person still i managed to change the whole colour of this layout using it! :D
